The Ukrainian heirloom comes from the Isle of Krim in the Black Sea. Indeterminate vines are strong and prolific, churning out a steady harvest of big, deep mahogany-colored fruit with chartreuse shoulders. The flavor is smoky, salty and sweet, all at once. Thin skin makes it prone to bruising, but that’s not a problem when you eat them fresh from the garden.
